Project: Brisbane Metro major infrastructure upgrade Buranda Station 

Brisbane Metro is a planned high-frequency bus rapid transit system that will service Brisbane. It will consist of two routes that will run through the Brisbane CBD every five minutes during peak times, transporting up to 1,800 passengers per hour in each direction with a total construction cost of $1.2 billion.

Project Profile: Queensland Electrical and Communication were engaged for project works- Diversion to power at TransLink’s Buranda Station Tunnel Secondary supply & construction site’s Temporary power supply. 

Project Brief: All temporary works were not to impact any of the existing structures or damage to platform RSJ, Temporary works to be in place for the entirety of the project forecasted for 24 months & delivery of works to be completed within six weeks.

 QEAC commenced site scope & design on a new cable route location for Acciona engineers to approve. Buranda station being a existing site with no allowances for lane closures, presented many challenges. Works were completed within a small window when bus lanes were closed from Midnight and reopening 5am & operating Boom Lifts over 11m around existing infrastructure.

TransLink Buranda Station Tunnel Secondary power diversion & site Temporary power supply scope consisted of:  

  • ET3 Series Ladder Tray to run entirety of existing Busway infrastructure 
  • Civil Reticulation  
  • 95mm 4c & E SWA- Tunnel Secondary Supply
  • 25mm 4c & E SWA- Site Temporary power supply
  • Protective Membrane & Ezy strut Beam Clamps
  • After the project completion, Acciona commented “QEAC’s Electrical Installation Team worked exceptionally well under pressure and Challenging circumstances”.
